FrogOS - Frog 3.0 Login process
FrogOS / Frog 3.0 Login Process
NEW: Watch the video: here.
The following applies to users running FrogOS and Frog 3.0 together.
With the advent of the June release, it's now possible to have Single Sign On between Frog 3.0 and FrogOS. This allows content to be embedded in FrogOS from Frog 3.0 without the user being prompted to log in again.
There are some considerations around this and how users log on which are detailed below:
For Frog 3.0 users logging onto FrogOS AND using Active Directory Authentication, you will be required to log into Frog 3.0 first. This is because FrogOS cannot authenticate you against Active Directory and therefore will reject your login. We would recommend pushing out a link to your FrogOS instance from your Frog 3.0 dashboards, and keeping it so that users always log into Frog 3.0 first. The user can then click the link to be taken to FrogOS.
You can use this link: https://myvleaddress.com/frogos/app/os and substitute 'myvleaddress.com' for your school URL. This should let you access FrogOS without the need to log in again. Thanks to Neal Packard at Mirfield Free Grammar who let us know he created a link simply saying /frogos – Frog opens the new page on the end of the IP address or internal/external address, depending on where the user is hence.
TOP TIP: Why not consider adding a redirect brick in an IF statement on the staff dashboard to send users automatically to FrogOS if they are members of a 'FrogOS users' group? A video will be made available soon, describing how to do this.
This does NOT affect users that do not use Active Directory authentication.
I would like only a pilot group of users to be able to login to FrogOS
For this approach, you will need to create a new user group and add the users who you wish to have access to FrogOS.
Firstly, login to your Toolkit and navigate to your Users area under Admin > Users.
To view a list of your existing groups, simply click the “Groups” button to the left of A-Z. To create a new group, click on New > Group.
You will then be presented with a popup window. Enter the group name and choose which users you wish to be in this group. To move them to the right hand selection area, single left click them and click the central right pointing arrow to move them over.
Once you are happy with your group, click OK to save these changes and create the group with your selected users.
I would like all of my users to be able to login to FrogOS
The next step is to add a method of getting to Frog OS for all users or for a chosen user group. You may wish to consider the following options:
- Adding a link to your dashboard page that when clicked will open up Frog OS in the same (or new) window/tab.
- Adding a redirect brick to Frog so that users will automatically be redirected to your FrogOS login page.
Your FrogOS login page will be your school URL/frogos. For example:
In this example we will create the link in a new page but you may wish to add a link to an existing page on your Frog 3 platform.
- Create a new page and edit it.
- When viewing this page in edit mode, the first thing to consider is whether you wish for all users to see this link, or just your chosen user group.
If you wish a specific user group to see this link, you will need to drag on an If User Type Frog brick from the structure tab.
Once this brick is on the page, double click the brick on the page to open up the brick settings:
Select the desired group and move them to the selection area by using the right pointing arrow.
Click OK to confirm these settings. This now means that any content you place in the top section of this If User Type brick will only be visible to users of your specified group.
Next, drag on a text/pictures brick onto the page from the common tab (drag this into the red highlighted area below if you only wish your specified users to see this).
Double click the text/pictures brick when placed on the page in order to open up the brick settings. Type the text you wish to be used as the link, highlight it with your mouse, then click the “Insert link” button which is the fourth from the right option on the below toolbar.
Clicking this will open a further popup where you can specify where this link will take you.
Click on “Internet Page” on the left hand side then type in your URL/frogos.
If you want this link to be opened in a new window, you can use the top right settings on this popup and tick “New Window”.
